The front should have the bust of George V. On the rear there should be the circle of maple leaves and One Cent in the centre. There should be a line dividing the date and denomination. The edges are smooth.

This coin caused controversy when it first came out because "DEI GRATIA", meaning "by the grace of God", was absent from the coins (a similar error occured on 1911 Indian coins). All large cents from 1912 until 1919 correct this error.
