The front should have Lincoln facing right and the date at his right. On the rear, there should be the wheat design, which has a ONE CENT in the middle along with UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. Two oats lean on the sides. The rims are not reeded.

The 1943 Steel Cent was minted due to the need of copper in WWII. Millions of Steel Pennies were minted. The public was upset due to the Steel Cent. It was unusually light weight and had a different color. It also rusted easily. The Mint converted pennies to copper once more in 1944 but about 40 steel pennies were accidentally minted.
